Bio

Dr Yanaris Ortega Garcia is a Policy and Project Officer at Materials for Tomorrow at the European Commission, and currently managing EU-funded projects on materials characterisation techniques and materials development for the building sector.

She completed her PhD Physical Chemistry on computational simulation at the University of Seville in 2012.

She has been linked to data, policy and project management positions at the European Commission and the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking over the last 7 years.
Earlier on, she was working in the private and academia sectors.

Javier Sanfelix is a Policy and Project Officer at the Materials for Tomorrow unit at the European Commission – DG Research and Innovation, and currently managing EU-funded projects on materials modelling among other activities.

He holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on environmental and economic assessment of batteries for electric vehicles.

He has been working at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission providing scientific support for polices in the area of
sustainable production and consumption, with a focus on circular
economy approaches.

Abstract

Towards pairing up materials modelling and characterisation

The future of European industrial manufacturing requires further advances in characterisation methods and computational modelling, in order to lead the way to the reliable design of new and sustainable materials and processes, rapid upscaling, and effective quality control.

These advances can only be achieved through the development of innovative techniques and a new generation of instrumentation, responding to industrial needs. These advances will be covered in this presentation.
