Tasks:

The position will focus on research case studies for the existing Materials Cloud platform, with primary focus on both the portal frontend development and deployment, as well as support for the backend development.

Outstanding candidates are sought with a background in the physical sciences, engineering or computer science, with strong programming skills, and with experience in the development of web architectures powered by cloud technologies.

The software engineer would work with a team of 10+ PhD students, postdocs, and software specialists with diverse backgrounds contributing both to AiiDA and the Materials Cloud, joining an exciting and very driven international team at the forefront of research in the field of materials discovery and design.

The NCCR MARVEL is a centre on Computational Design and Discovery of Novel Materials created by the Swiss National Science Foundation in May 2014.

MARVEL targets the accelerated design and discovery of novel materials, via a materials’ informatics platform of database-driven high-throughput quantum simulations, powered by

  • advanced electronic-structure capabilities, for predictive accuracy
  • innovative sampling methods to explore configuration/composition space
  • application of big-data concepts to computational materials science

The search is focused on materials for energy harvesting, storage, and conversion, materials for information-and-communication technologies, and organic crystals/pharmaceuticals.

Codes, data and workflows of the project are disseminated through the Materials Cloud platform and the Quantum Mobile virtual machine, both powered by the materials' informatics framework AiiDA.

MARVEL is directed by Nicola Marzari and EPFL acts as the leading house, but the NCCR involves 33 principal investigators across 11 Swiss Institutions
