We are looking for a new colleague that has interest in working within the fields of mechanics of materials, computational mechanics, and programming.

About us:
We work with various problems that involve materials and structures that are exposed to large mechanical loadings, for instance forming and crashworthiness of automotive components, casings for geothermal wells exposed to rapid heating and/or cooling, and hybrid connections for multi-modular floating structures. We have a thorough competence within mechanics of materials of various material classes, computational mechanics and development of specialized software. The group has a robust and diverse project portfolio for numerous customers varying from that includes both direct industrial projects, innovation and competence building projects supported by national and European public funding bodies, and and involvement in long-term research centres.
The group is part of the Materials and Nanotechnology department at SINTEF Industry. Materials technology, including nanotechnology, is of paramount importance for solving the major challenges in our global society, and forms the basis for new business opportunities in both existing and new businesses. The department develops generic material knowledge at a high international level for a broad market. We assist our customers in developing new or improved products based on our strong expertise in structural and functional materials. Through combination with other relevant expertise in SINTEF, we contribute to the development of sustainable value chains in the context of a circular economy.

Tasks:

• Performing nonlinear strength analyses of materials and structures
• Development of frameworks for advanced strength calculations using commercial and/or in-house finite element software
• Planning of research and development projects, including the development of project applications for public funding schemes

Expectations:

Desired competence and experience for the position:
• PhD or equivalent research experience in mechanics of materials or structural mechanics
• Broad experience with nonlinear computational programs such as LS-DYNA or Abaqus
• Experience in programming/software development
• Experience from experimental mechanics and advanced measurement methods is advantageous
• Good presentation skills in Norwegian and English. If you do not speak Norwegian, you are expected to learn the language
