The EMMC invites you to another webinar of our EMMC Organisational Members, on November 14, 2024 | 14:00 CET online.
This time our EMMC Organisational Member Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials - IWM will present the organisation and current activities within the OM Webinar:
Semantic orchestration and exploitation of data for materials, manufacturing processes and products
Speaker: Yoav Nahshon
As a catalyst, innovator and problem-solver, the Fraunhofer IWM provides materials competence for research and development solutions as required by clients and project partners. To this end, the institute combines know-how and experience in all fields of materials technology and materials science. Within the scope of Materials Design, Manufacturing Processes, Tribology, Component Safety and Lightweight Construction and Assessment of Materials, Lifetime Concepts we offer clients and project partners individual solutions, unexpected insights and immediately actionable results for the development, production and application of functional materials, high-performance components and resource efficient manufacturing processes.
Abstract
The fields of materials science and manufacturing generate a vast amount of complex and interconnected data, encompassing experimental measurements, simulation results, machine logs, and scientific publications. Effectively utilizing this abundance of information is crucial for driving innovation, yet organizations often face significant challenges due to data fragmentation and a lack of standardization. In this talk, we present the Dataspace Management System (DSMS), a comprehensive technology stack designed to seamlessly integrate and leverage diverse data sources within a unified environment.
Co-originating from the MarketPlace project (EU) and inspired by its app-store concept, DSMS adheres to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles, offering tools for data integration, visualization, and enrichment to support engineering decision-making. By employing semantic technologies and ontologies, DSMS enables deep contextual understanding of data, building a bridge from established software systems in companies to emerging advancements in areas such as generative AI (e.g., large language models). Through real-world use cases, including a steel manufacturing pipeline in the StahlDigital project (Germany), controlled vocabulary management in DiMAT and nanoMECommons (EU), and material life cycle representations in Fraunhofer's flagship project ORCHESTER, we will demonstrate how DSMS can help researchers derive new insights and address complex data challenges in materials science and manufacturing.
