“Integration of materials modelling in business decision support system : case of COMPOSELECTOR”October 16, 2020 / 15:00 CEST / Duration: 1 hour

Description:COMPOSELECTOR Business Decision Support System (BDSS) integrates materials modelling, business tools and databases into a single workflow to support the complex decision process involved in the selection and design of polymer-matrix composites (PMCs). This is achieved by means of an open integration platform which enables interoperability and information management of materials models and data and connects a rich ‘materials modelling layer’ with industry standard business process models (BPMN and DMN). The project and the developed decision support proposes to move towards a new paradigm in decision-making and material selection and design where all concurrent material-selecting factors considering the whole value chain.COMPOSELECTOR BDSS is built on three ‘‘pillar’’ technologies:

  • Materials and Process Modelling
  • Materials Databases and Data Integration
  • Business Decision System

These pillars are interconnected and integrated via interoperability and metadata using MuPIF. The interoperability layer seek compatibility with platforms from other BDSS projects, by contributing and adhering to metadata and interoperability standards of the EMMC.  The integration of different modelling workflows and existing software solutions allows for carrying out multidisciplinary/multi-objective optimisation and analytics for material and structure evaluation, uncertainty management and selection, spanning through “cradle-to-grave” lifetime of a product. The BDSS is validated against three test cases selected from the aerospace and transport value chains (AIRBUS, Dow and GoodYear), thereby complying with the requirement of flexibility of application to different industrial sectors.Speakers:

  1. Dr Salim Belouettar (Project Coordinator), Luxembourg Institute of Science and technology, Luxembourg (www.list.lu)
  2. Dr Carlos Kavka (Business Layer WP leader), ESTECO, (www.esteco.com)
  3. Professor Borek Patzak (Interoperability WP Leader), Technical University of Prague (https://www.cvut.cz/en)
