EMMC Domains

EMMC Domains focus on industrial application areas of materials, in which modelling and digital technologies have high impact. Examples include Energy Conversion & Storage, Electronics, and Health. As these involve a wide range of materials and processes, and rely on physical phenomena at a wide range of length and time scales, the range of methods and expertise required is also typically large. At the same time, the application of modelling and digital methods is often hampered on the ‘last mile’, i.e. while the general modelling capabilities are in place, the application expertise and datasets may be missing or hard to identify.

By gathering experts in the domain application and links to domain-relevant resources, EMMC Domains aim to support users, in particular in industry, in the adoption of state-of-the-art modelling and digital methods.

Also the Domains aim to build communities of practice with deep knowledge in the challenges and solutions regarding the domain and its specific materials and processes. An example from the Energy domain is modelling of the calendaring of battery electrodes. By organising field around specific materials and processes, users should be able to identify relevant experts/groups and solutions more quickly.
