Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

General description of organisation

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is Norway’s largest University with more than 40,000 students. The Faculty of Natural Sciences (NV) consists of eight departments and conducts research and education in the natural sciences, environmental science, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, materials, and chemical engineering.

Our research activities range from basic research within biology, physics and chemistry, to enabling technologies such as biotechnology, materials technology and nanotechnology.

NTNU is an active participant in European research projects in materials science, and materials modelling is one of our core expertise areas.

Information on projects, services, products

We contribute in the development of multiscale simulations and their workflows, modelling ontology and interoperability, and basic research in materials modelling.

The EU-funded VIPCOAT project creates an open innovation platform that should assist engineers in developing coating materials and constructing accelerated life test scenarios to assess their durability.

The concept of MarketPlace is collect, adapt and integrate all scattered modelling components from all fragmented materials modelling and industrial communities and provide a single point of access to all materials modelling activities in Europe.

The national SFI PhysMet research centre aims for sustainable and competitive metallurgical and manufacturing industry via seamless collaboration between modelling and experiments. The Digital Transformation project AllDesign develops a multiscale modelling platform for studying nucleation and precipitation in aluminum alloys and resulting properties in macroscopic components.
