Professor Hashibon received his PhD in 2002 in the field of Computational Physics and Materials Science from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel.
He founded and led the Materials Informatics Team at Fraunhofer IWM, Freiburg, Germany, that develops tools for interoperability, materials ontology, digitalisation and multiscale and multi-model coupling and linking workflows including the SimPhoNy open simulation platform, materials data space management systems and business decision support systems.
After a short spell as an entrepreneur in 2021 when he founded Materially - The Materials Modelling Marketplace GmbH, he joined UCL as a Professor for Data Driven discovery.
Professor Hashibon brings his vast experience utilising materials modelling, data driven approaches to contemporary technological problems and fundamental materials science to the Institute of Materials Discovery.
He is an active member of the management board of the EMMC since 2014 and is one of the founders of EMMC ASBL and serves on the Board of Directors.
