General description of organisation

SINTEF is one of Europe's largest independent research institutes. We carry out several thousand projects for customers large and small every year, mainly based on bilateral industrial contract research and participation in publicly funded Norwegian and European research projects.

We are a broad, multidisciplinary research organization with international top-level expertise in the fields of technology, the natural sciences, medicine, and the social sciences. The research delivers solutions and services that create value for customers. With cross-disciplinary knowledge and advanced laboratories and modelling frameworks as a base, SINTEF develops – in close collaboration with customers – technology and solutions within a broad range of research areas and industries.

The profit of the contract research projects is invested in new research, scientific equipment and competence development allowing us to offer world-leading laboratory and test facilities in a wide range of technological fields. Our advanced laboratories range from microelectronics and nanoscale technologies, to the world's largest marine and multiphase transport laboratories.

SINTEF conducts contract R&D as a partner for the private and public sectors, and we are one of the largest contract research institutions in Europe. SINTEF participates in several EMMC-relates projects where we among others are contributing with our expertise on semantic interoperability, data modelling and application and development of ontologies. We have an extensive expertise in materials modelling across most scales and can also contribute in EMMC related initiatives as domain and modelling experts.
